So I took a wooden medium size spool apart. Now to be fair, I had some help. But really you need to just take the long, long nut out and the whole spool comes into pieces.

So the above is one side after I fully sanded using orbital 80 and 220 only. I wanted it smooth but weathered/rustic.

So this one on left, I burned and used the inside area.

Applied Vinyl letters/ and then painted on the numbers

The one below, I painted the metal washer inserts black; applied vinyl letters.

Then I applied sealant to both.

My hubby; helped cut up a round circle of metal I got from Lowes. A small piece to cover the large hole. Painted and attached with screws.

This is where use what you want here; apply whatever. Because the clock YOU create is unique and can't be reproduced. There will always be a different even in reproduction.

Below is the finished piece with Metal numbers and after being sealed. Remember the wood will change due to its natural weathering if you don't fully sand off to a new surface.
